Blind Date
As some of you know I had a blind date last night. Needless to say it was probably one of the worst I have ever been on. There was clearly no chemistry there. In the past I have always enjoyed myself and then question if she has done the same. I then struggle over the question of calling her again for a second date. Well there is no doubt about this one. I tried all night to have a good time, I even had 3 adult beverages, but it just wasn't happening. Some of you may think that I was too worked-up over the whole thing and there was no way that I would have had fun no matter how much alcohol I consumed. This is not true for some reason I stress an exuberant amount before the date but once I am on it and the evening is progressing I find a large dose of calmness and try and make the most of the evening. Unfortunately it seemed nothing I did made this evening go any better. Ok, so I know I have to give at least some details, so I might as well get on with it. I will start all the way at the beginning with how this actually came to pass. While at City Hall the other day Tracie asked me about this blind date option. She actually started asking me questions from a survey that Jessica (blind dates name) had already filled out. Tracie knows her from the Jr. Women's Club and dealing with her in the sense of her utilities. So, I agreed to allow Tracie to inquire about a date. Tracie even extended the offer of a group date if she did not feel like one on one. Well she agreed and Tracie provided me with her email address so that we could communicate further. I sent her an email with my phone number in it and later that evening she called me. I was still at work and only got a voicemail. So I waited about an hour and called her back. We talked for about 10 minutes she told me she had some training yesterday and would be done around noon. I asked her if she wanted to do dinner and she agreed I told her I would call her Saturday after her class with some specifics. Heather and sat down and tried to figure out good first date items to do in Gainesville (there aren't many). Heather came across Coconut's, a comedy club here in G-ville. Terry had just been there and said that she had fun so I figured why not. I had never been to a comedy club and from the encouragement I got it should have been a first date to remember. With the evening planned out it was just a matter of waiting. I called her at about 1-1:30 and we agreed upon 7. Heather and Ruth were at the house when I was getting ready so I had to have their approval before I left the house. I started out with one shirt... then two... then three. I had to try on the latter two and my first pick was tossed. When it was all said and done they both encouraged and tried to reassure me. I received my accolades and off to Williston I went to pick her up. I was extremely early so I stopped by the PD. I experienced some addition words of encouragement and said there nervously twitching. Time finally came and I headed to her house.
I seen her walking down the road with her dog. She is an attractive women, this is a picture she told me existed on K-Country's website from the 4th of July parade in Williston. (Click for larger version)
Anyways, I parked and headed in her direction. I asked just to make sure that she was my date. We greeted each other and she took her dog inside and invited me in. She gave me a quick tour of her house and we were off. I told her were I was planning on going for dinner and said if she had another suggestions I would entertain it. She did, we went to La Fiesta a Mexican restaurant. Turned out to be good food. We both had a margarita over dinner. Conversation was not very personal. We talked briefly about family and our tentative futures but for the most part it ended all being about work. I did not bring it up... she started that conversation. She also told me over dinner that she was not interested in dating just meeting people and making friends. I swallowed and keep on with the evening, which was probably the end of the evening for me. I had to finish it out just as a formality. I told her the plan for the evening. She told me she too had never been to a comedy club and seemed excited about the idea. We left and while en-route she told me she just came out (April) of a long (3 year) relationship. And the fact that she started seeing someone about a month ago and they quickly agreed that it wasn't going to work. We arrived at the comedy club and took a position at a high top in the back of the room. We both ordered drinks and waited for the show to start. There was some additional conversation, what it was I really couldn't tell you but we also just said in silence. Time finally rolled around and one guy got up on stage, the MC he really wasn't that funny at all. The next guy a black comedian was funny and they the headliner. He was an impressionist and was pretty good. Some of his material was a little outdated (Clinton jokes). All in all though he was a decent comedian. I keep looking over and she wasn't laughing much. Well the night was coming to a close and my phone starts vibrating. I flip it open and read what is on my screen. A text message, I am trying not be rude as I am still sitting at the table with her. I read briefly and see "And if not booty cop a feel!!!" Quickly I snap the phone shut and go on with the evening. I was slightly confused since it seemed to be part of another message but I was not in a position to worry about it then. Moments later my phone buzzes again. At this point I just silence it. The show ends and I am waiting on the check when she gets up to go the restroom. I seize the opportunity and look at the message again. The second buzz ended up being the first part of the message. I read it and couldn't help but laugh. Not only because of what it said but because of the route the evening ended up taking and how slim my odds were on getting some booty or even coping a feel. I knew at this point that the evening was over and didn't offer to extend it any longer than it had already gone on. So back to the car and to Williston. By the time we passed the PD she had already fished into her purse and pulled out her house keys. I pulled into the drive and walked her to the door and she said "Well if you want to hang-out sometime give me a call." I said sure and turned to walk away. Got back in my car and headed home. So, correct me if I am wrong ladies but I would say there is no second date in my future.
So that was my evening last night. Hopefully my next blind date will be better. At least this one called me, unlike the one Stoker tried to hook me up with.
Gotta go look at Heather's car now. Lots of stuff to get done today.
